I don't pay a price for cooking quality so I don't expect chef knives. What I received was way better than I expected (which is always nice). For the purposes of this review these knives replaced a set we had for over 20 years and were of medium to high quality. I bought 3 different sets. compare at the same time. One came back before it was fully unpacked. The pens felt like lightweight, cheap plastic, and the set actually cost more. The other was more comparable but still didn't have the same solid and comfortable weight as these knives. Also, I like the extra smooth feel of the handles on them. Color is what I find most striking about knives. It is like in the photo. It goes perfectly with the house we recently moved into (with a completely different color scheme than the one we had before). Knives cut very well, especially for their price range, which is something to keep in mind. I liked everything about them including the set that we kept for over 20 years except for one little thing. The position of the scissors. This is a problem with many kits, even "higher end" kits that cost a lot more. Scissors are probably the most commonly used single pieces, but they are lower profile and get stuck in the middle of higher profile knives. This makes them not as easy to find or return as if they were in front of, or at least on the other side of, the block. I mean it doesn't make sense to me to hold a taller object (which probably won't be used that regularly = a knife sharpener) in front of the scissors. For me that's the only reason I can't give 5 stars. I'm also a little worried about the actual block, which wears out relatively easily as knives etc come in and out over time. But that can hopefully be easily fixed by touching up the wood. I didn't want to put them in the dishwasher despite conflicting information about dishwasher safety. A steak knife was introduced by a guest and it turned out very well, but personally I wouldn't want to risk the impact on time. Overall I am delighted with this set of knives which have been used for over 4 months previously. will be revised. It's absolutely gorgeous, works and cuts well except for the scissors mentioned above.
