Starter Kit

My kids love to cut out stamps. It's really very reassuring and amazing to feel the carver go through the rubber. It is addictive. Even my 7 year old loves trying it. We have several sets because every child wants a tool set. The tools contained in it are compared with other sets. They are of good quality and work well. The rubber is also of good quality. But I recommend two-tone rubber for beginners. It almost looks like an ice cream sandwich with a color in the middle. This lets you know when you've cut deep enough, but not too deep. These overlays are all the same color, and that's okay. You can always paint the surface to get a similar effect if you like. It's just that once you've tried two-tone rubber sheets, it's hard to go back (when teaching beginners). The role is good and heavy. This is not a cheap plasticine roller. The stamp pads are fine. I love the variety of colors and how some of them have a metallic tint to them. But they're not big ink pads. The nibs don't hold up and the ink isn't consistent. To explain, I've posted a photo of three different random colors that I "painted" on a piece of paper. I simply pressed the entire ink pad against the paper and used a roller (on the paper) to press the ink firmly and evenly down to the stop. I didn't get a single solid rectangle inked. He's spotty. So when you roll the ink, you really have to roll it up a few times and apply a lot of pressure. If you print directly, press the button 3-4 times. What I love about ink pads is that they fold and snap together. So they take up less space. Since the tops don't hold tight, I highly recommend folding them up and then wrapping them with a rubber band or two. All in all, this is a good set for beginners.
