Rubber parts give the drink an unpleasant taste

I really want this mug to be liked. I had a previous model and lost it. I liked it very much. This one has a slightly modified mouthpiece design. The problem I have is that the rubber piece covering the hole and the gasket covering the threads give the coffee a horrible chemical taste. It's hard to describe how bad it is. My wife confirmed this by simply sniffing the cup. I tried soaking them in baking soda and water for a few hours but that didn't work. I then tried soaking them in vinegar and that helped a little. Followed by a trip to the dishwasher. But the next day the problem came back. I emailed Stanley customer service with all this information and they just told me to read their FAQ which I already had - so the vinegar and baking soda treatment. I really can't believe they used such a bad rubber material in a drinking cup! Hence one star for the bad material and for the really bad customer service. Now I have to see if there is a satisfaction guarantee - if so, it's definitely a comeback, it's no use to me.
