Review on Acer Swift LED Backlit Widescreen Processor by Derek Davie

This product was a big disappointment

This product was a big disappointment. I did a lot of research and on paper this item looked good and looked like good value for money - based on the specs listed. I wanted to use this laptop for photo/video editing and this laptop seemed like a good alternative to Windows for a MacBook. After receiving the product, it started and I was able to customize it. After restarting the laptop again, it initiated an automatic Windows 10 install/update, a process that took hours. As a result, the laptop turned off. Since I had another laptop, I didn't turn on this laptop for several weeks, when I turned it on afterwards, the display froze on the laptop's scenic background, with the ACER display flickering heavily for several minutes. I restarted the laptop hoping that the system would reboot and automatically fix this error. The laptop's keyboard backlight turns on and off by itself for a few minutes and the display remains blank/black (as if the monitor was off). After restarting the laptop again, the keyboard backlight turns on and off by itself several times within a few minutes and the display stays blank/black. This laptop was purchased brand new from Revain, from Acer. Neatly stored in a pocket. This laptop has never been dropped and still looks like a brand new laptop with everything intact. I'll try to contact Revain and Acer about this, after that I can post a YouTube video for everyone to see as proof. Update: July 2018 I sent my laptop in for repair and received it a few weeks later. Now the laptop works fine. Obviously I got a lemon; - a failed unit that required the replacement of critical internal components. Update: November 2018 The laptop broke while in use. The screen froze - neither the keyboard nor the mouse nor the touchscreen responded - it didn't respond at all. I used the power to turn it off to try restarting the computer but the laptop never turned on. I contacted ACER support but as the laptop was out of warranty at that point they said they could NOT help me. They told me it appeared to be a hardware issue for which I would have to purchase parts and fix it myself. The laptop I paid $799 for and only lasted a year was a huge disappointment. This was my first experience with ACER and in my experience it could be my last. For this reason I have changed my updated rating from 3 stars back to 1 star. I've had cheaper laptops (from other bands) that lasted over 5 years. Looking for a decent laptop? Choose something else.
