Like many others, I have only positive things to say about this steam juicer. On the first day we used it to convert 2.5 pounds of elderberries into 30 ounces (almost 1 quart) of juice, which is a 75% elderberry yield! We then started with 75 pounds of freshly picked pears. They produced four gallons, which is 40% of the production of Minnesota pears. Now I'm making pear and elderberry cider. Delicious! A batch takes about two hours, and I had to cook five batches of pears. Almost no work required - we cut each pear in half which took a few minutes but there was no other prep. The only downside is that all the heat is released from so much heating/cooking/steaming - best on a cool day. This isn't my first juicing rodeo, but this is my first time trying a steam juicer and I feel like an idiot! for doing it the hard way for so long. I used to boil fruit with some water, then mash it in a potato masher, then strain it through cheesecloth. Very slow, very dirty and less profitable. I kick myself for not buying one of these steam juicers ten years ago. Better late than never! Since it makes juicing so much easier, I'm even considering trying some fruits I've never considered before. Like crab apples and tall bush cranberries.
