Review on Sony INZONE Gaming Monitor Dimming 27", 144Hz, HDR, SDMU27M90, HD by David Spresser

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Too expensive look elsewhere

I wanted this monitor as soon as it was announced by Sony. This monitor had everything I wanted/needed: 4K @ 144Hz (120Hz from HDMI), HDR, built-in speakers, and four (4) display output ports (1 Displayport, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, and USB-C ALT). I knew it would be expensive but I don't mind paying extra for a quality product. I also have many other great Sony products (Sony A7IV and several G2 lenses, PlayStation systems). The monitor freezes every few days and I have to turn it off to restart. I ignored the average reviews and I shouldn't have. The monitor is NOT ready to use out of the box. Video cable (Display Port, HDMI or USB C) not included. This was problematic as firmware updates already need to be installed. I didn't have the right type of USB-C cable to update the firmware (needed to connect to the processor). The image has not been calibrated at the factory (Dell UltraSharp monitors available). There are no clear instructions on how to enable the 120Hz settings. For PS5, 4K 120Hz is not immediately available without changing the HDR settings on PS5. I went to reddit to get around something. Getting HDR set right is essential for any image quality, as you cannot fine-tune it in the settings. Finally, the Xbox Series X looks better than the Sony PlayStation 5 (compared to games bought on either console). This monitor is overpriced and recommended due to known issues. This monitor reminds me of my favorite/worst purchase of the Sony KDS-RXBR1 SXRD TV. It had many features but was too inconsistent in production. My TV had minor issues while a family member had serious issues. This product turned me off from Sony in general. This monitor can do the same. Here is my suggestion if you need this monitor: 1. Hope you can get a good monitor2. Wait for version 23. Buy LG or Samsung instead. If I could go back in time I wouldn't "upgrade" to this monitor from my LG 27UK600.
