Just got back from the beach where we used these stakes to secure a 10' x 10' canopy over 10-12 inches of loose sand in a constant wind. The wind was constant every day at a speed of 8-11 m/s with gusts up to 20 m/s. I used my foot to push aside the loose sand deep enough to get at the hard material underneath and used a hammer to dig into each guy post. The stakes were amazing and easy enough to be taken from your seat when it came time to escape camp at the end of the day. If I remembered how deep the sand was, I might have gone for 18-24 inch pegs, although in my own home on the mainland they seemed excessive to me. Sand. Because the tension was significantly different than wind-tested stretches, these 12-inch pegs were the perfect solution for keeping the mat in place. I would buy them again if I was still in the market!
