Review on Canonical MAAS by Ronald Reese

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Decent solution if your automation requirements aren't complex

Easy to use, easy setup of hardware devices with images available in all versions (RHEL7/8). It's not so intuitive as it could be but you can always ask questions or search online how things should work - there are many people who will help! Also I like that they have released their code which allows other companies to expand this product even more easily than just using canonical image would allow them too. We wanted automatic deployment without writing scripts ourselves. And also we needed some customisation, e g adding our own certificates etc., nothing complicated really. I like that it can be used as an alternative to cloud-based solutions, such as Google Cloud Platform. This gives you better control over resources allocation without having full access of the cloud servers themselves (which may not always work well). In my case, we needed something robust with enough flexibility for our needs in terms of resource allocation. We managed to use this system to create virtual machines running various Linux distributions including Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS.
