Good quality wood. One of the clasps fell off after the first use. The metal that makes up the hinges/locks is so soft that the hinges on the small patch (where the canvas will stand) bent so much but luckily didn't break and I managed to reshape them , and everything was fine. The size is perfect for me and the projects I want to work on. When I am working and the easel is heavy, the drawer is easy to open; otherwise it's a bit fiddly to open and close, but for me it's secondary, what matters is the size and strength of the easel itself. I use it in my studio so I'm not sure how it will hold up to the regular movement if you use it for plein air painting. In general, I'm happy with it as it's quite affordable. I would still recommend it if you use it at home.
