In 40 years of owning numerous aquariums, this product is hands down the worst designed and worst performing product I have ever used. The idea is excellent - a skimmer for small aquariums, small footprint, attractive for what it is. However, as a working product, this is a complete failure. The body of the clamshell is attached with mounting brackets. As a result, the device produces literally millions of microbubbles around the seams of the hull and at the water outlet. The skimmat reservoir is extremely difficult to remove and reinstall without knocking the skimmer off its mount. The device also leaks and/or forms microbubbles at the bottom of the reservoir. The suction cups don't attach firmly to the mounts as the suction cup pins on the mounts are smooth - nothing to create a gripping point for the suction cups. Disassembling for 3 weeks did not solve the microbubble problem, nor did the modification (which should not have been necessary initially) with filter foam to remove the bubbles due to the case leaking. To close the case, you do not need to rely on the accumulation of salt. The air intake is located near the waterline and directly below the containment basin, making it very susceptible to water ingress (or salt build-up) and rapid overflow. Tank through very wet skimming. It also makes a significant amount of noise, although that doesn't bother me, there are many videos where people have had to modify (!) the device to make it quieter. One piece body, sealed screw motor, sealed degreaser reservoir, raised air intake and suction cups that can actually remain attached to the unit. The number of units sold isn't a sign of inferior design in my opinion, damn it. I bought one!
