Review on πŸ”Œ BTMETER BT-6688B Megohmmeter: High Accuracy Digital Insulation Resistance Tester by Matt Estrada

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works perfectly out of the box, accuracy well tested.

I bought a BTMETER BT-6688B tester to evaluate and compare the bottom shoe insulation. Its ranges of 200 gig and 5 kV are very critical for me. Other measuring devices are not so expensive or the costs are too high for me. I also like this model because it has an actual resistance value and not just an LED display showing, for example, "resistance between 10 and 100 MΞ©" - that's not enough for me. I also like the simplicity of the meter, nothing pretentious, no preparation. It has two side terminals for measuring resistance. Two additional connections in the middle enable voltage measurement. To test the accuracy I bought some high value resistors. Because of the cost I only bought the cheaper lower values from 47Meg to 5Gig under $5. A quick test that took a few minutes gave me the following results: 47MB 5% resistor reads 44.9MB and 45.3MB 90MB 1% resistor reads 89.1MB 150MB 1% resistor reads 147, 5Mb resistance shows 1.97 gig 5 gig 1% resistance shows 4.97 gig I am very satisfied with the test results. All readings appear to be a bit low, but this error is fairly consistent and well within specification. Grounding shoes and other shoes I've used for comparative testing have given me readings much higher than 5 gigs, some close to 200 gigs, and some over the 200 gig maximum. Power cable included - All cable connections are on the back - Build quality is normal for such a cheap meter - Clear display, non-slip body, ideal for outdoor testing. CONS - Some recommendations for the best operating voltage for a given resistance range may be printed on the bottom or on the front - No information on how long the batteries will last. Should I take a spare set just in case? All in all a very good inexpensive tester that reaches extreme 200 gigaohms and 5 kV.
