How to use this amazing knife

Excellent. I just couldn't be more grateful to finally be able to give up the grapefruit knife I inherited 20 years ago. How to eat grapefruit at home. An old-school method taught to me by my father, who was born and raised in Manhattan. It's a little snobbish, but classy. To be honest it takes some practice and skill to get the membrane between the parts properly. I learned when I was 10. This is my way, you can go or leave it. Hello grapefruit! 1. Cut in half with the stem to the side. Do not cut lengthways. Use a clean cutting board. 2. The half is now the "bowl” for your fruit. No need to take it out and put it in another bowl until the end. 3. Hold the knife at about a 45 degree angle and use the tip, curved side UP, to penetrate the center of the fruit just outside the circle of the membrane. 4. Press down gently until it almost touches the skin, then lower the handle slightly toward the fruit and gently slice in a circular motion without touching the skin. They remove the white part, which is bitter and tough. Don't worry if the cut is triangular or square. Only the end result is the removal of the inner core/circle. 5. The center circle should now pop out easily along with the curved part of the knife when pushed up slightly. If not then you missed the area, go back to step 3. 6. Then inserting the edge of the fruit, your "cup", reinsert the knife with the curved side UP. You'll push straight down until you almost reach the bowl. Don't puncture the shell if you want. Keep your "cup" intact! 7. Now for the tough part, with the knife curved upwards, slide forward toward the open center circle, under the fruit, close to the skin, until you see the tip enter the circle. You have to find the corner yourself, but stay close to the bowl, scoop down, forward to the circle and in. 8. At this point you can either leave the knife at an angle or rotate it around the edge. You will adapt, carefully sawn, as you drive around. Or you can remove the knife, re-enter a few times to do step 7 a few times. The end result should be that you can literally pick up the whole piece of fruit and see your bowl. Ideally, there should be some fruit in the bowl so you can enjoy a delicious treat after your meal. Now it's time to make the wedges. Knife inside, curved side up, white membrane inside on side. Shovel and file the wedge that separates it from the next piece. On the other side of the next wedge is a membrane. Don't worry, just move on to the next snippet. Repeat all around. This should be easy as the fruit will no longer stick to the skin.10. The white membrane between the lobules is not very thick. Don't bother deleting unless you have plenty of free time. Place the grapefruit zest in another bowl to drain the juice as you eat. 11. Fruits are now delicious bite-sized pieces. A little sugar or not, depending on your preference. You don't need a grapefruit spoon. A regular spoon will do. You can dig a little into the bowl for extra juices with each bite.12. Now the fun part! When you're done, take your grapefruit "bowl," admire your work, then fold it in half, squeezing firmly to squeeze the juice from the peel into another bowl. You should also get some nice little pieces of fruit. Then fold it in half the other way and pinch. I usually fold and press again, but most people don't.13. You can be polite and use a spoon to sip your juice, or drinking from a bowl is perfectly acceptable. This knife is amazing. It is well suited for daily home use of grapefruit. It's cheap too. Remember, expensive doesn't mean better.
