I changed the transmission in my '79 Ford F350 pickup from C6 to E4OD and had to rework the exhaust system in the process. My truck has a set of headers and a nice 3 inch exhaust system that has been in service for 18 years. The manifolds have never loosened or leaked, but after the exhaust pipe rework they leaked a lot and I decided to try those dead soft relief gaskets. They work great and now there are no leaks. The metal they are made of is very soft, but the stamped ring just around the flange where the tubes meet is what really makes them work. I undid everything, loosened the manifold bolts, put the gaskets in place and bolted them back on, job done. After a few heat cycles I recheck the bolts for tightness but I don't think they will rupture like a normal manifold gasket.
