Review on ๐Ÿ‘ž Premium Leather Lined Rink Roller Skate for Men - Chicago Skates by Justin Metz

Beginner skates that require professional tuning

As stated in the description, these are leather lined boots. Vinyl outside, leather lining inside. The boots need to be broken in, so they will not be comfortable at first. I wear a size 9.5 and ordered a size 9 according to the size chart. The boots are a bit big, they fit me from shoe size 9.5 to 10. The sock has about 3/4 inch space. I can't find anywhere in the description that it says soft or hard wheels. They feel softer than my 78a longboards. So I'd say it's probably a 78a and they're meant for outdoor use. I've only used them indoors and they are very grippy on the floor. I think that's why a lot of people say you need to change wheels. But if you use these wheels outdoors, these are the perfect wheels for beginners. Wheel sizes are 62mm x 34mm, which is a good indication that they're also designed for outdoor use. Several documents are attached to roller skates. It says they have a 30-day limited warranty. That's ridiculous because most retail stores have a 90-day return policy. And the company says if you have any questions, return them to the place of purchase within 30 days. Which pretty much means the company doesn't have its own guarantee. Along with the information that comes with the skates, it states that inline skates require very little adjustment. I found this not to be true. The nose stop wasn't adjustable at all, it was set to the highest position. So they had to be lowered a bit to make them work. Side note (tip stops are usually designed to be set once. They are then replaced when they wear out, i.e. they no longer have a groove). I also had to adjust the carts, that's the part where the wheels attach. One of the trucks dangled heavily, which allowed the plate to crack. I noticed that at least one person in the reviews had a cracked plate. Most adult inline skates are typically rated at 230 pounds, which can cause the plate to crack. However, if the carriage is not properly adjusted on these skates, it can also cause the plate to break. Even if the jump plate is removed, it may crack. The jump plate has nothing to do with jumping, its purpose is to distribute the pressure evenly over two cars. The point is that the plate and carriages are cheaper to construct so a jump plate needs to be installed. A note is attached to the skates, which says that no tricks can be done with them, not even jumps. They are only there to roll. What I find a bit sad is that all skaters should jump at least once in a while. Trucks were very difficult to set up and had very little room for customization. The plate is designed to reduce manufacturing costs and allow for little customization. And makes it very difficult to actually adjust them. The screw and the lock must be adjusted at the same time in order to set them properly. If one or the other is not in the right position, the plate can break. Jacks on trucks are weird. They are both the same shape and size. Usually one of them is in the shape of a cone, but both are large cylinders. I believe this is done to be able to hire lower trucks. Otherwise they could not be properly tightened. Therefore, if you need to replace them, make sure that the bushings are replaced with the same ones. Roller skates come with a universal skate attachment. Unfortunately, this tool doesn't include everything you need to customize your skates. You can remove the nut on the wheels, adjust the toe stop and one of the nuts on the carts. However, to adjust the carriages properly, you will need an extra wrench. I don't recommend using a flathead screwdriver on carts, it will no doubt rip them off. Overall my skates look brand new but the carriages and plates looked used. They were very badly scratched. But the wheels were new, never ridden. So I think the plates and carts were just poor quality. I replaced the bearings with ceramic ones. If you are a beginner I would suggest using the bearings that come with the skates for about a month. I also added toe guards to the front of the skates to protect them from wear and tear. If you use them on the rink or indoors, you'll need to buy new wheels. They cost about $50 to $100. A good softness rating would be 92a, this is a good all round indoor bike. Can I recommend these roller skates? I would also recommend them to those who want to skate outside so they don't have to spend more money. Otherwise, use the extra money you would have spent on new wheels to buy better skates. In theory, these are good inline skates for beginners. It's just sad that the company doesn't have good quality control and doesn't have a good guarantee behind their product. I actually watched a video where someone was given a free pair to make a promotional video or instructional video for these skates. And the company actually gave them two different sizes, and one of the plates on the skate was set the wrong way around, so the skate rotated on its own. Even if they try to promote their inline skates, their quality control is very poor. I am considering returning these skates because they are not 100% leather and the carts are ridiculously difficult to set up properly.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Low repairability
