They fit well and provide good ankle coverage but I was put off by other reviews saying they weren't waterproof so decided to test this before I read the Kids dress them up on the trail. I used a garden hose to mimic a rain shower. The first drops were repelled by the fabric, but very soon the paper I put inside got wet, especially where the suede meets the mesh. I didn't even need much water from my artificial rain to get wet. They will never survive a real downpour or "survive" by stepping in a puddle. Too bad they look very breathable and therefore comfortable.
