This review is for the Pentagon Locks 90cm chain lock. This is a fairly massive (ie heavy) chain lock with 10mm thick hardened steel links. It feels like the chain uses the same 10mm links throughout the chain. As stated in the description, the chain is covered with a neoprene sleeve, but looks more like nylon to me. The body of the lock is covered in silicone, as is the end of the chain that is inserted into the lock. Inside the lock is a thick rectangular bolt that goes through the chain link to lock it. Inside is a magnet that holds the chain in place while it's unlocked. This makes locking a lot easier as you don't have to bother with holding the chain together and locking at the same time. The length of this necklace is stated as 90 cm, but it is a bit short for a necklace. 90cm is the distance from the end of the chain to the end of the lock, but since you have to rewind the chain it's actually not that much - I would estimate a usable distance of 1ft. On my bike with fat tires, that length is really just enough to attach the front wheel to the frame. The lock works smoothly and the key remains unlocked. The magnet helps keep the chain in place during lockup and given the specs this seems solid overall. In New York I only use this to lock the front wheel, but in less dangerous spots locking the frame and rear wheel will probably be enough. My only complaints are with the company, which seems to be still tweaking things. They have a key registration form on their website which I did but never received a confirmation email. Although this suggests it is a Sold Secure Gold certificate, I could not find it in their database. For now I'll let them hesitate, but I hope they sort it out soon. Overall, this seems like a good choice for moderate protection for your bike.
