This thermometer is very handy and easy to use. I can't really judge the true accuracy without an actual certified standard to compare to, but it compares very well to a couple of old analog oven thermometers (the type that usually hang on the oven shelf). Its readings are usually within a few degrees (+/- 5) of analog versions. Of course, I don't know if the IR thermometer is right or the analog versions aren't quite the same, but +/- 5 degrees of deviation is acceptable to me. You have to be careful when aiming to make sure you're actually reading the temperature of your target, but that's normal with all IR thermometers. The bottom line here is simple - I like it, it works well and I'm happy with my purchase.
