I have had many Salomon shoes. And Lowa's, Montrail (pre-Columbia), Adidas Outdoor, Merrell etc. I have them as "casual" clothing - I live in Colorado so I prefer gore-tex or waterproof shoes even in summer because you never know when to wear them. Walk in puddles, rain, etc. and I do quite a bit of walking and hiking on loose trails. Fit wise they were tight, if my 'measured' fit is 9.5 then that's 10.5 in nikes or trainers. , and the default value is 10 if I want my feet to swell a little while hiking. This size 10 fits perfectly and is a bit tight so I would go half a size larger than what you measure when hiking in it - 9.5 was way too small. The wisdom of wearing is where this shoe has suffered. It took me 9 months for the sole to flatten out under the heel and toe where they wear the most. I would say they fit well, I liked them very comfortable and supportive and for 'low' they weren't 'too low' like a lot of backpackers in the new style of shoes. I brought back the XA Pro, Pathfinder Mid and Outbound Prism for this reason as your foot doesn't get enough support in shoes below the ankle. The tread on them, like most Salomon, is top notch when new, but all of their new soles tend to wear out very quickly. Area held up very well and coped well with light water/snow - wish they would give me a couple of years and I would buy a second pair in a heartbeat, this color and olive look great but hopefully I've gotten through them x Crest GTX Replaces These soles last longer. The X Crest doesn't look as casual but seems more solid, but time will tell. Quest GTX had strong durable soles 10 years ago, Salomon please go back to that.
