If you're carrying a jacket, backpack, camera bag, and camera hanging from the lanyard, removing one of the pieces can create a tangle, depending on which piece you put on first. Also, a camera hanging from a collar in front of your body can swing like a pendulum when you move it. The wrist strap is a good alternative. If your hand should be free, you can put the camera in the camera bag (hang around the neck). The wrist strap takes up much less space and you don't have to roll it up like you would with a collar. However, I would rely on a neck strap rather than a hand strap to hang the camera in places where it might fall from a distance. I see the wrist strap as accident insurance, not a means of hanging a camera. This particular strap works well. When I bring my fingertips together and slip them into the loop, the loop expands and slides down toward my wrist as I spread my fingers. I can put it on with one hand. However, I need both hands to remove it. It's long enough for me to hold the monopod under my head with a wrist strap and a mounted camera. It is very comfortable when walking. With just the camera on, I hold it by the lens and the strap still sits comfortably on my wrist. Why this strap? I like the flexibility of neoprene. The weak point of any strap is the attachment of a narrow nylon loop to the lobster clasp. Judging from the photos comparing this strap to others, I felt the seams would be more secure with this strap.
