Review on ๐ŸŽฅ XGIMI H2 True 1080p Movie Projector: 4K Supported Smart Projector with Harman Kardon Sound Bar, Auto Focus, Keystone Correction, and Android OS by Tyler Kota

Revainrating 3 out of 5

First test of Horizon 1080p. ALL REVIEWS UP TO JULY 2021 ARE FOR OLD NON-COMPLIANT PRODUCT

NOTE ON THIS AMAZON LISTING. an older model called "H2" (listed as "black" variant on this page). This isn't the same as the new Horizon model (listed as a gray variant on this page), which was released in mid-July and has completely different specs. This is the first review of a new product. Two unrelated products should not be combined on the same Revain page. This mixes reviews and questions with information for an older, unrelated model. This should not be allowed, is very misleading and gives incorrect information. One star deducted for that. I'll update when they fix it. 2. UPDATE - 3* We've spent a lot more time with the projector this week including connecting it to a Roku Express as well as an Apple TV 4K. Both eliminated the brightness flash I saw when streaming the Criterion Channel. This convinced me that it was an interpolation problem. While it shouldn't be, I've only seen the issue with the Criterion Channel app on the built-in Android TV OS. Playing the same movies on the Criterion Channel app on Roku or Apple TV was no problem. This difference shows the problem, I'm just not sure what it is. It's a pity that you need an additional streaming device in addition to the device included in the Smart Beamer, but it solves the problem and also makes Netflix available (currently not available on Android TV OS due to licensing issues. This may change in the future). Overall, the Horizon handles connectivity very well, so switching between the built-in operating system and the Apple TV was quick and hassle-free. And the Horizon remote works well with both, no programming required. The same goes for connecting to a Bluetooth speaker for audio output. Once paired, the projector will remember the last output settings (internal speakers vs. external bluetooth speaker) and will automatically connect at startup. out). I don't use keystone correction or digital zoom, so no comment. I think Xgimi thought a lot about the hardware and software, it takes sophisticated engineering to make something this complex work well and easy to use. It feels like they're striving for the sophistication and glamor of an Apple product, and they're very close. Perhaps the only tricky part is figuring out what settings are best for external streaming devices and the projector with its interpolation (MEMC). I'm not sure what frame rates are supported (other than 1080p at 60Hz) and haven't figured out the best output settings to use on the Apple TV to deliver them. But for the most part, the resulting interpolated image is pretty good. I can't stress enough how much streaming bandwidth impacted image quality. It may be obvious that the output quality can't be better than the input quality, but this is the first projector I've used as a TV and it took me a few experiments to understand how important internet speed is to performance. especially with large images. Finally, I still haven't received a solution from Xgimi for the problem I raised. The representative replied that they needed time. Looks like Xgimi is working on something. They released a FW update yesterday that adds 3D features and fixes bugs. It's always nice to see active development. This really should be a 5 star review, this is a wonderful product. You must: 1. Separate independent products in this Revain listing, this is a cheap marketing tactic, which does not correspond to the high quality of this company. Solve Criterion Channel interpolation problem in Android OS.3. Offer advice on the best settings for the external streaming device, when to use MEMC, and what resolution and frame rate are supported without interpolation. 1. UPDATE - 2 * There is a problem with the brightness flash on some films. I'm seeing this on the Criterion channel and for now I'm assuming it's an interpolation issue. But that makes the films unwatchable. Have contacted Xgimi and will update when they reply. ORIGINAL REVIEW - 4* Other than that, the Horizon is a great projector. Good image quality (rather sharp, smooth, with occasional processing artifacts and/or noise, but quite pleasing and acceptable for the price) and brightness (washed out during the day, good in the dark and dark hours of the day, black level is high but acceptable for the price), good sound for a monoblock (clear and loud for TV, not "cinematic"), easy to use and looks great. In my opinion, there isn't enough of a difference in image quality between the 1080p Horizon (listed in gray option on this page) and the 4k Horizon Pro (on another page) to justify the $500 difference. I recommend saving and getting this one.
