In a nutshell this is a very good lightbulb and a great idea but it's not being implemented. Blocking out the light creates an odd effect and you end up losing the bulb's effectiveness in illuminating what's underneath. It just doesn't work the way I hoped it would. What they really need to do is soften the bulb, reduce light and glare without completely blocking the light. Because of the light blocking, everything above that line and then a little below it in the room was lit, but then we lost a large amount of light hitting the bookshelf. It's well made and works well for this purpose, but you're wasting too much light. I give it four stars because it does what it's supposed to, but I don't recommend it because it blocks too much light. Good luck with your search.
