PPE - be sure to take out your old item and compare carefully to the pictures. I looked very carefully at the correct part number for my old GE JBS26 oven and bought it - but assuming they sent me exactly what I ordered, it's not compatible. You would think the exact part number would be the exact replacement part - I mean right? But no. The screw holes are very small, the pin holes actually. Much smaller than the original and without screws. It just wasn't possible to screw the wires to the element. After swearing a lot and trying to figure out what to do, I was itching to return the item and start over. I reamed out the tiny screw holes a bit by screwing in as many of the original pointy screws as possible, then looked for smaller screws and managed to connect the wires securely. Then I went to put it in position - another fantastic surprise! There were no holes for screws under the partition or whatever it is called! More swearing. So I took a large sheet of aluminum foil and folded it several times to create a makeshift divider, folded it around the element and covered the hole and left it unscrewed. He flicked the switch back on, turned on the stove, and watched her like a hawk. It worked. The fire didn't break out. The setup is actually better/safer than the 25 year old rusty parts it replaced without much difference. Still, I was a bit nervous given the improvised nature of the setup. Then he added pizza, and the temperature was everywhere - sometimes too hot, sometimes too cold. Maybe I can feel it and adjust - the old one was always 15-20 degrees hotter than the dial indicated but was constant so it could be adjusted. This one seems to run a bit colder than the dial, but is fully heated to over 400 degrees. Maybe there's a lull in time with these elements, who knows. All in all, I spent most of the evening doing what should have taken 10 minutes. But I have a working oven again. Next time a similar situation arises, I'll probably spend more on a genuine OEM branded part. Remember to check visually - apparently an exact match with the item isn't enough! For some stupid reason.
