Review on Intermatic IOS CMP DT LV Voltage Ceiling Sensor by Tim Paolucci

Update - dead after 1.5 years

Update: After over a year of impeccable operation (approx. They didn't respond to anything, not even a button press. After trying more obvious solutions like changing the lightbulb (more precisely i.e. the LED liner on the glass) and checking the wiring, I regrettably removed this from my box and reverted to a regular light switch. --------- --------- ---------------------- To enter my house from the street, open the basement door, go through the hallway and then into the basement Light switches in both the hallway and basement are in the hallway/basement doors which seemed like a good idea at the time so I was pleased to receive this item for review This Intermatic occupancy sensor replaces a basic Lutron switch to control an LED Some Notes: The Intermatic Box is much deeper than a regular switch so it took a bit of fiddling with wires to get it to fit. (See image). While the Lutron switch and household wiring are solid copper, the Intermatic wiring is stranded. Intermatic connectors are screw-in and Lutron switches have screws. (Not sure if this is a cost or space saving measure). A simple switch, unlike an Intermatic sensor, does not require a neutral connection. The sensor is very versatile - it can be configured for IR and/or ultrasonic detection and sensitivity adjustment independently for both; adjust sensitivity to ambient light; Set a time delay before automatic shutdown; and set the trigger for free space (manual on, auto off), occupancy (auto on, auto off), and OFF (auto on, auto off, no manual operation). - Instructions in English. (okay), but still not particularly easy to parse. (Among other things, it tells you to lower the sensitivity of the ultrasonic sensor to avoid accidental triggering by a heat source, and I think that reference should be made to the infrared sensor instead). set with the switch installed and the switch plate attached. Overall the sensor has worked well so far and saves me having to choose between cold outside air from an open door when walking to the light switch in the hallway or stumbling over my husband's sneakers in the dark.

Pros
