Review on Honeywell Ceiling Fans 50690-01 Bonterra: Sleek 52-Inch Matte Black Fan for Effortless Cooling by Dan Quiceno

Almost perfect lighting and ceiling fans

I have installed many ceiling fans in my life. This one is really good and I'm very impressed with the included remote control. They provide an interface that takes power from the wall switch and splits it into power for the fan and light separately. The remote control can then be used to select one or both. My favorite part of the remote is that you can still use the regular wall switch and the fans/lights will revert to their last settings. For example, if you just used the light, the wall switch will turn on the light when you turn on the power. If you used a fan, the fan will turn on with power. Yes, once you've used both, they'll both come back powered. You can also connect a fan and just use the remote control of your choice. The remover comes with a cute little holder that can be screwed to the wall or attached with double sided tape. The Lowes bottom bars worked fine, so I'm not sure what issues other people have encountered. The only thing I didn't like at all is that the fan doesn't support a large tilt on the ceiling. For a flat ceiling only I would rate this a '5', but since it doesn't support a steeply sloped ceiling I downgraded my rating to a '4'. I don't understand why manufacturers can't just enlarge the hole in the ceiling to accommodate steeper slopes, but this is a common problem for many of them. However, this one seems to be worse than others I have installed. My ceiling slope is fairly gentle, and yet the lid hits the bottom bar, preventing it from hanging vertically.
