First let me say that I had no intention of migrating from my Charge 4, other than that the Charge 4 decided to stop syncing with my phone. After many hours of FB support, it turns out they don't support 'new' phones. Check out my Charge 4 review if you're thinking about it. Hence, I was faced with the need to either downgrade my phone or change the ecosystem. I did A LOT of research and decided to take a chance with Amazfit which is new to the field. I managed to get my old Charge 3, I had to get back to work so I did a 5 day trial. I'm a big believer in the 'test and learn' philosophy so it was interesting to try both and see what the switch would entail. Pros of the GTS 2e: - Looks good, some people might mistake it for an Apple Watch, which I think was intentional. - I like the app which defaults to dark mode - It works with my phone - LOTS of cool watch faces with high stats in different patterns and colors - Standard 20mm strap so lots of options to customize Cons (keep stuck): - Advertised on getting up to 28 days of battery life, 14 days of real world use and 7 days of heavy use. I have about 48 hours of continuous heart rate and blood tracking. I have a bit of OCD in my workouts and I do a lot of HIIT. In the picture you can see the Charge 3 tracking on the left (I also wear a chest monitor for accuracy which is a bit or 2 equivalent to FB, I mentioned OCD). On the right you can see the same workout recorded by 2e. I even started the training manually to give it the best chance. Sleep tracking is overly optimistic. Side by side again (second image), FB shows 2.5 hours of REM sleep and 1:18 depth, which is fairly stable over the last 3 years. The score (not shown) was 82, again fairly stable. 2e shows 94 points and VERY different sleep stages. While this may be true and FB has been wrong all along, that is unlikely. It also doesn't track "up" time, even if you get up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom. The app is not intuitive. While it's good to have some screens in dark mode, others randomly switch to light mode without a control I've found. See the difference in the pictures. The home screen is always the latest on top, and there's no way to set and change what you want to watch that's important to you. While tracking "stress" is interesting, I really don't want it to overwhelm other things I find more interesting. FB wins with the ability to move things around and even remove things you don't need (calories) to set the screen to the same layout every time. - Pedometers are extremely inaccurate. It's Covid times now and I've been walking the same routes for months. The 2e struggles with automatically recognizing walking as exercise, and grossly underestimating the number of steps. Especially if you don't move your arms. I followed my snowblower for several hours (big snow in CHI) and FB reported 8,000 steps with 2e being only half that number. By doing this many times, I will use FB measurement as the next one. If I keep my hands in my coat when I go for a walk, it's usually 10-20% too short. So what should I do? Well I am returning 2e as I was able to revive and connect my charge 4. If/when it goes offline I plan to look at Garmin as my new ecosystem as they've done well in space and probably fixed more of the bugs. If you're looking for a fitness tracker, I still prefer the Fitibit ecosystem, but check supported phones before buying. If yours isn't supported, then you may be the hardest hit by world support.
