Emptying the reservoir is not part of normal conversation. Unless you have a van. I bought it to connect to a portable tank. With bayonets on both ends, attach one end to the RV storage tank and the other end to the tank. Or, in my case, I use Camco's 39847 RhinoFLEX 45-degree clear elbow for the drain hose on the portable tank. This works very well. Plus, it feels like a thick, durable material. Which, when you think about what you're dealing with, gives the job more confidence. :)
