Review on IOGEAR 4 Port Switch Cables GCS1764 by Steve Harris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product, but you might run into this easy-to-fix problem.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550, a QuickSilver 2002 PowerMac G4, and a PowerMac G5 Quad. I really like this product. I love that it comes with all the cables you need while some of the more expensive units don't. I had to dig around to find out and what it adds to their roughly $100 cost. four sets of cables separately There was one big problem: when turning on the Dell Dimension 4550, the keyboard lagged heavily or sometimes spat out 20 copies of the last character, no matter what computer I was working on and when I was using Dell, the mouse turned on too optical wheel would drop out every minute or two, requiring you to disconnect and reconnect (or switch to Mac and then back to Dell). IOGear tech support was very helpful and it turned out that there is an issue with motherboards that use nForce4 chipsets. and its USB implementation. rth quick response emails, IOGear support referred me to a discussion on the nVidia forums. Many people have had the same symptoms as me. A quick fix is to buy an inexpensive Micro Innovations USB210P hub and place it between the Dell and KVM. As of this writing, Revain is selling the hub. I originally had links to the support forum and the Revain hub, but the review rules don't allow URLs. Excuse me! Everyone on the forum who has tried this hub reports success and it doesn't even need to be turned on. Mine will be here in two days. In the meantime I've tried two other hubs and a USB stick and they didn't help, which also reflects other people's experiences. Few products are known to solve this problem and finding Micro Innovations' USB210P was the easiest. The iRocks IR-4300 Hub also works.
