I put the batteries in and it worked right away. no programming for my samsung smart tv. Of course, some of the buttons on this remote don't have a function for my particular TV, and I expected that. But all the functions that my regular remote control had were on this unit and work just as smoothly. The backlight is a little dim, but more than enough to see functions in the dark. Also, with the OEM remote, I had to point the device directly at the TV's infrared for it to work. This is not necessary with this device. only in the general direction of the TV. no more fiddling with it, point the remote control at the right spot. I recommend this product if you have a Samsung Smart TV and want some backlighting.
