Review on 🧊 2 oz Vollrath Stainless Steel Disher - Size 16, Dark Blue by Brandon Woodson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for big cookies!

This is an excellent scoop. It's solid, powerful, works well and feels good in the hand. I've only had #16 a few months, but I've had #40 for two years now and it's held up very well. Despite the mechanism, it is easy to clean: just press the handle to clean it under the moving arch, then put it in the dishwasher. #16 makes large, attractive, pastry-sized cookies that are 3 to 4 inches tall. in diameter, most of which are in the 3.5 inch range. I think this is a great size for selling baked goods but too big for regular home use. For the cookies we'll be eating at home, I use Vollrath #40 (3/4 oz), which makes cookies that are 2.5 inches tall (add or take a half inch). My only complaint about the Vollrath blade is that they don't make a left handed version. This is a very correct instrument. I'm left-handed and I usually hold this scoop in my left hand, scooping up food and then curling my index and middle fingers to pull the lever down to release the food. It's not comfortable. The angle I have to hold it at means the bow's "powerful swing" comes up from the bottom of the blade rather than the top down, making the sticky stuff a little harder to loosen. Sometimes I switch the triggering instrument to my right hand, which makes triggering easier, but I find it more awkward as my right hand is weaker and less accurate than my left. But to me, these are small things compared to the high quality and performance of this scoop.

Pros
  • Disher has a molded one-piece handle that increases durability, makes cleaning easier and prevents the handle from falling apart.
Cons
  • Useless functions
