Review on Extreme USAF Microscope Resolution Target by Ian Bates

Testing microscope objectives and sensors for photomicrographic cameras is a complex task. This test slide is important for comparing different lenses and different camera sensors. The USAF Resolution Target is suitable for oil immersion objectives. It can also be used with dry lenses; However, when using high numerical aperture dry lenses and a correction collar, a 1.5 coverslip must be placed over the template. The slide can be used with oil immersion objectives. Above is a comparison of images taken with a camera sensor. An image is captured when the sensor is shifted by one pixel to provide an image file consisting of 80 megapixels. The second image was taken at the sensor's native resolution of 20 megapixels. The red arrows mark the resolution limits. This test established the effectiveness of the pixel shifting algorithm. The slide is very well made and easy to clean.
