I've seen countless negative reviews of this model on YouTube and here at Revain. I can't agree more. I've been an avid gamer (on both consoles and PC) for 32 years and I'd like to think I know a thing or two about those things. So I'll tell you what you're getting, challenge negative reviews, and maybe teach you a thing or two. So I have a Core i7 10700F (locked version. Not user overclockable), 16GB DDR 4 @ 2933MHz, OEM Nvidia GTX 1660 TI (reference model specs), 1TB Dell NVME SSD PCI-E Gen 3 SSD with no DRAM, but with HMB technology , standard (budget standard btw) 80mm fan at the back of the case, standard CPU cooler/fan and proprietary 500W PSU, glass side panel and LED strip inside. Of course, I also got a 2-year guarantee. In terms of cost, you'll be hard pressed to build this system for less than what Dell is offering. In other words, you actually get what you pay for. As far as upgradeability goes, it's a mixed bag with a lot of variables. Do you love tinkering with iron? are you capable Are you someone who just wants to play? Are you both a bit? Well, you can certainly upgrade this machine's processor, memory, hard drives, graphics card, add specific coolers, replace fans, and add extensions. But if you later want to move the internal components to a different box or upgrade your power supply, you'll need a new motherboard. Why? Because the power supply is proprietary, which means the motherboard must be the same. Everything is easy. This is really the only major downside to this build and a poor choice for Dell. Now let's move on to performance. The GT 5000 is fun! However, you must understand what you are doing here, my friends. This GPU is designed for FHD or 1080p gaming at high/ultra settings. If you enable V-Sync, you can get a solid 60 fps. Without them, expect high 110s or 120s on most, but not all, games. This is important to know as most console games are locked at 30 or 60 fps (XBOX ONE, ONE X, PS4, PS4 Pro) and newer 4K consoles are locked at 60 fps (Series X, PS5). Knowing this, the 1660 TI clearly outperforms the One X. So you won't get more than 30 fps at 4K with this configuration. Run it at 1080p ultra or 1440p mid-range for famed PC gaming performance that puts a console to shame. As a few examples we have Gears of War 4 Ultra-120FPSish, Witcher 3 Ultra-V-Sync-60FPSsolid, CONTROL High-MSAAx2-Volumetric Lighting Medium-V-Sync-60FPS, some drop to 51FPS, Deus Ex:Mankind Divided- Ultra MSAAoff - V-Syncoff 60FPS sometimes drops to 52FPS. As you can see, the latest PC games run very well. Hot box and fry your CPU, GPU etc. I can tell you that while the 80mm vs 120mm choice was bad, it still suits this setup. In addition, some have even shown that the PC shuts down due to overheating. Yes, this can happen if you don't bother setting up fan profiles through the Alienware Control Panel. Yes, you are already a big boy! You can actually control the airflow. So this system comes to some with Fan Quiet Mode enabled. It's not good for intense gaming. Just choose either Balanced or Performance. You can even create your own fan curves for precise temperature control. The fans are pretty powerful, and the whole PC case is pretty darn open. lol There are two known bugs in the software that I've encountered. If you accidentally uninstall Alienware Control Panel you are almost SOL and JWF. This will interrupt the installer and you will not be able to reinstall it. Well, other than reinstalling Windows or messing around with the registry. But with an NVME drive, it probably won't last long. Also another Alienware CP bug. You can change the mouse settings, but every time you do this the Alienware CP is not compatible with the .Net Framework. So Dell. Do you think you wanna fix it for me bro? You know when you look at me writing you a great review. Only other software complaints have nothing to do with Dell. this is Nvidia. Their drivers have been reeking of poop since July. This is with Nvidia and affects most of their GPUs on Windows 10. They broke hardware acceleration. Anyway, the driver that comes with this system is great. This is the last driver from July. In summary, this system is amazing once you understand what you are doing. Dell customer service is still useless and can do what is required. To buy or not to buy, dude. UPDATE: Just wanted to point out that I paid a little over $1200 for this model. It sells for around $1,350 per atm (01/07/2020). In this regard, another configuration is offered with the RTS 2060Super. This model is not worth the money compared to the 1660TI model. That's almost $400 more, and the price difference for the GPUs is only $200. So call it price gouging. UPDATE: Computer prices have skyrocketed. Getting any configuration on this system is now completely inexpensive. UPDATE: This particular PC has been updated with the latest NVidia RTX 3060 Ti without any problems. Dell now sells this system with the OEM 3070. There is no 3070 on the commercial market that fits well in this small chassis or can use a proprietary power supply. As such, I recommend not upgrading beyond the 3060 Ti. The specific RTX 3060 Ti I use is the EVGA XC dual-fan model. Anything larger or more powerful will require removing the front hard drive cage. The card worked very well for 3 months with no power or overheating issues. All you need to do is understand how PCs work and stop relying on Dell. They publish all characteristics and information. They just expect you to understand.
