My kids basically had the whole collection --- joystick, phone, scout, purple --- and each one seems different to them to fit stages of development. I would say it was the most advanced option and the one that has attracted all of our kids the longest and has withstood some serious abuse. Each of our children loved it and sometimes our 6 year old daughter (who originally bought it for her first Christmas) takes it and plays with her little brother. She still loves him and has a sentimental attachment to him despite having upgraded to more advanced electronics. While there is still debate about the role such toys play in earliest language development, I have seen them help all of my children learn the basics. Also, it made her happy and made her laugh. The game has taken on such a serious undertone in this day and age of overanalysis, but the point is having fun with a toy and when parents can hear their kids laugh, it's priceless. Note: When you do the alphabet and get to the V for the vulture, the associated sound made and continues to make the whole family laugh.
