Many X3s use two types of filters

My 2012 X3 uses these filters for the air recirculation and they are mounted above the glove box. There are separate filters for fresh air that are installed under the hood. These filters had to be neatly folded into a curl to fit the slot above the glove box, but they fit nicely.
