Cast iron gets very hot in the oven. Those silicone grip covers are a decent first line of defense against the heat, but they fall short. Also use oven mitts. Installing and removing the silicone protector on the hot handle of a heavy pan is not easy, so for safety reasons I remove the oven from the oven before installing the silicone handles. The idea is great, but silicone still conducts a lot of heat. Warmth.
