Cast iron gets very hot in the oven. Those silicone grip covers are a decent first line of defense against the heat, but they fall short. Also use oven mitts. EXCELLENT pen holder! The fit and feel of these buttons is wonderful. I use Lodge cast iron for most of my dishes and I find these handles match the Lodge cookware very well. square handle + tapered handle fits my 12" pan well. I made the rookie mistake of picking up a hot pen without a towel or oven mitt and after many, many ##!@!&111 words I decided to look for pen holders This is a good price for a great product to prevent condensation and rust on the handles.

There was a noticeable gap between the silicone and the handle itself (and the assist handle cover was too large and therefore unusable) which made moving the pan quite unreliable.
