Review on Lees Triple Flow Corner Filter Large by Azeem Mendez

great old school filters

I hate the sound of the impeller. I received a used power filter rig from Marineland and it drew a lot of attention. started ordering parts or a new surge protector thinking my dad was using stone age air and his fish were doing great. So I ordered two of these for my 45 gallons. In just a few days I saw a noticeable improvement in water clarity and since then it has only gotten better, albeit in smaller increments from the initial improvement. Ordered this with a bag of filament and some carbon, got a bag of plain gravel at Walmart, used one with filament/carbon, one with filament/gravel. The only downside is that they take up space and are immediately visible in the tank, but in terms of efficiency they seem to work well. Old school plastic air operated filter, the only thing to worry about was the little fingers holding the air duct centered on the risers, they seem a bit flimsy and I made sure to insert the air hose. I also threw away the stupid garbage. - A-Stone foam cone for a pair of real Aerostones. The internal box filter wasn't what I wanted, but since air burners are a thing of the past, you get what you can. They seem to be doing their job. ***To update**. I still think they are good filters. However, I had the opportunity to compare them with other similar things. Jehmco makes box filters out of old Lustar molds, at least that's how I understand it (the filters still have the Lustar name engraved on them), and I have to say the plastic is a little stronger than Lee's. The price is a bit higher because you have to consider shipping. In terms of efficiency, it's probably the toss - the big giant 'Lustar' has more intake ports but no option to use an air stone, which I think increases buoyancy over a basic bubbler device from what I've read . I also had the opportunity to try some old Hartz Mountain reverse air drive outboard filters that were made out of clear plastic that were very similar to these Lee corner filters and I have to say that the quality of the plastic is noticeably better on some of the real old school was. thick. However, that doesn't mean Lee isn't fully operational. And as long as you take care of them, box filters last forever. They're still very much in my filter arsenal.
