My drain in the downstairs shower room, the lowest drain pipe in the house, was clogged and overflowed. Yes, cleaning was fun! I inserted a drain cleaner attached to a garden hose into a 4 inch drain and it cleaned the drain. After cleaning I figured since this basement shower is rarely used it would be a good idea to put a water detector in there in case it happens again before I can ask the plumber to run a video camera down the drain to check for water . broken pipe or obstruction. I hung an alarm in the shower and attached a washer to keep the sensor plate from falling. About 2 months later the alarm went off when the water in the shower was dirty. At least this time my family knew not to flush the toilets or turn on the faucets until the drain was clear. That alarm saved me from another terrible sewage treatment.
