One side of our old toaster stopped working recently so I decided on this one based on the reviews. It is true that it has a terrible smell when you first use it. I decided to turn it on with no bread and let all sorts of "smells" burn out. For several minutes he stopped sending any signals. It roasts evenly and while I probably won't be using it, the keep warm feature is good. It has only been used a few times, but the crumb tray makes it easy to clean. My old toaster folds out so it's nice to be able to easily remove the tray when it's on the counter. It also looks good, which is an advantage.
