Review on Protect Your RV With LATCH.IT Shade: 7'X9' Zippered Screen Awning For Ultimate Wind Protection And Privacy. by Sam Thorpe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not as much shade as I thought, but still worth it.

Update- August 6, 2022: I have used this shade a few more times this summer. This last trip, we put it up and left it up. Instead of using the bungee cords, I used the other metal attachments since I was in a Campground and didn’t bring my 5 gallon water containers. At night, I just unzipped the lower shade from the awning section, and laid it down nicely on the ground. I left it attached to the stakes. One of the afternoons when the wind came through I went to un zip it to remove it and retract my awning and noticed that my awning was not moving very much. I’m including a video that shows the wind coming through and the shade not moving, while it kept my awning stable. I think the metal parts did an excellent job of stabilizing the awning, and it save me the effort of going into the camper to retract the awning. If you look at the last photo, you will noticed that behind my trailer, we also put up the pop-up shades. In the afternoon, we noticed that the temperature underneath my awning was considerably cooler than the temperature underneath the pop-up shades. I was very surprised by that. As my husband helped me put away the shade away last night, he commented on how easy it was to fit everything into the bag. I really like this shade a lot more now than I did in the beginning.June 2022: We take five Gallon water containers with us when we dry camp. I found it’s easier to attach the bungees to the full water containers. This keeps the shade 100% off of the ground, and gives us a little bit more shade because I can extend it out away from the camper.May 1, 2022: The shade is very transparent, looking both in and out. However, in the southwest sun, something is better than nothing. The installation was fairly fast and easy, 2 person is recommended. I am 5’1” and I can zip the additional section on and off by myself. To keep it cleaner while in dirt areas, I had assistance from a family member with the zipping on of the longer section. (They held it off the ground). We did notice that the shade was dragging the ground just a little bit, so we rolled up the awning a few inches, which lifted the shade up to the perfect height. The instructions are clear, the storage bag is thick with functional zipper. All the extra pieces are heavy duty, except for the plastic stakes. I busted them with the first install. I ended up using a rock to hold down the bungees. However as the light breeze blew on the shade, and the bungee rubbed against the rock, I could tell that the friction will cause the bungees to wear out sooner than anticipated. Maybe next time I will attach a rope or something to the bungees and then wrap those around the rock. Or maybe I will use my 5 pound weights that I use with my large pop-up shade. This shade is lighter, takes up less storage, and is easier to set-up and take-down than my pop-up shade. I wish my awning was wider.Overall this is great, I have only used it twice, but it was so easy to unzip and remove the longer section when a sudden wind storm came through. I would buy it again. Only thing to note is that after I had purchased this, and a side shade from a different manufacturer, I then saw it sold in a bundle with the side shade. I could have saved money and gotten a better side shade with a better bag and accessories . So if you want both sections, look for the bundle.

Pros
  • Excellent addition to our Jayco awning!! Really should come with all metal stakes.
Cons
  • Too large for smaller RVs or camper vans.
