Highly recommend this gate. I love the craftsmanship and functionality. It closes by itself as you walk through and opens in any direction, which is a great benefit when trying to keep or keep kids or dogs out. The aluminum connections are carefully soldered. And it looks like it was made especially for this place, very attractive together with my wrought iron staircase. It is installed on the second floor at the top of the spiral staircase, so the stairwell is now safe for small creatures. 5 stars for all of that. But 3 stars for ease of installation. I read all the reviews and looked at all the other manufacturers before buying and a lot of people said the product broke or fell or they couldn't get through the gate or open the latch. I don't have any of these problems. And the reason is that I DID NOT INSTALLE IT MYSELF. I paid a carpenter to do it. Tip: In order to secure the gate securely enough to open the latch as intended, it is essential that it is bolted to a stud in the wall or attached to a post or railing on the stairs. Simply bracing and tightening extensions between two walls will not hold it in place. Any big dog or toddler would just knock him over. And I suspect that's why some reviewers complain about gates or latches breaking. I don't know how the latch will hold up over time so I may have to re-evaluate if it breaks after 6 months. These gates are perfectly safe to use when permanently installed. If it wears out after a year, I will get another one and put it in the same place already prepared. I'm glad to see that a medium sized labrador can't be taught to open a door. That's why I got it and I'm glad I did! Highly recommended.
