Review on 🐱 Stay Cozy and Dry: K&H Pet Products Thermo Mod Kitty Shelter - Waterproof Outdoor Heated Cat House by Angela Anderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Our wildcat uses it semi-regularly

Last winter we did TNR (trap neuter release) on a wildcat and surprisingly he came to eat later winter and again this fall. So we bought this heated shelter and put it on the porch. About 2 weeks later he tried it and seemed to like it. He spends about 5 hours a day there (from midnight to 5am) on the few nights that he'd rather hole up here than in the barn he lives in. We have a camera and he comes in very, very cautiously and when he leaves after 5 hours he makes a good run on the way out. This little hiding place keeps him warm all night and also warms our hearts when we see him on video. We hope he uses it more often since we live in the cold Northeast. I put a piece of thin cotton fabric on top of the pad so it can be washed if needed. We placed it in a covered area where its weather resistance isn't tested, so I can't comment on that. The zipper was a bit tight which made assembly difficult, but nothing we can't handle makes it more durable. And yes, it smelled funny so we put it outside to air it out for a few days and after just a few days it stopped smelling funny. We did not use the plastic lid and are never allowed to use it for fear of not getting in with this previously trapped wildlife when the lid is closed. When we did TNR last year, he was thrashing his body so hard trying to get away that his nose was bloody when we released him the next day. My reassuring "It's okay" voice didn't calm him down lol. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes that he would even use this shelter.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • So far so good
