If you look at solar digital swimming pool thermometer, you will find bad or indifferent reviews. Most of these are toys. Some require a button press to turn on the display for each reading. Some fail in a few days and some rust the screws etc. This has served me well for a year, mounted outside. Finally it failed after a strong thunderstorm. They're not sold for that purpose, but they're so much better than those sold for pool use, so I'm going to put them in a weatherproof clear plastic case. I expect years of service from it. If they ever make a waterproof version of this and sell it for pool or spa use, they've got a winner. Maybe I'll fill it with clear epoxy! After all, the battery never needs to be replaced.
