Review on Monroe 37122 OESpectrum Truck Absorber by Pablo Rudon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great price and easy installation.

I went to my local auto parts store and they told me these Monroe shocks cost twice as much. Absolutely unbelievable. By doing it myself I also saved 2 hours of work in the workshop. With the savings on the rear wheels (again, over half the price) plus my own labor, replacing all four dampers came to 1/3 the total cost if we had sent the car to the shop instead. These shocks are the rear kit I bought so I could disable the Air Ride system on our '98 Explorer. The rear shocks were installed first due to the pair, the rear shocks would be the most difficult to install. And they were. Fronts come out much easier. The air hose and wires were simply cut off the old shock absorbers. I jacked up the car and then removed both front tires. It does not matter in which order the upper nut or the two lower screws are loosened. Because the suspension is in the air, the A-arms hang and the shocks are fixed. Place a jack under the lower wishbone and raise until the shock is loose and can be pulled out. The new shock absorbers are not as wide as the original parts. Lower the A-arm and slide the shock into place from below. Install the bottom two screws first. Then raise the A-arm again. This will push the shock rod, upper threads up, into the engine bay where the upper half of the bushing with support washer and nut can be installed. Remove the jack. tighten the top nut; Put the tires back on and you're done. The new Monroe shocks offer a much smoother ride than the crappy old Ford Air Ride shocks.
