My family is Caribbean and I was taught how to open coconuts, young and old, with a cleaver. This works well, but watch your fingers, sometimes you lose a lot of water. It works flawlessly, some good hits and pushes the cork on the coconut, no waste. It won't work for the brown old coconut variety that most people are familiar with, but you can't beat it for a young coconut. Another benefit is the ability to reach the entire pulp of the coconut. I've seen another tool for sale that just pokes a hole in the top, although I'm sure it works fine, what a waste not to use flesh. I hope it continues to hold up, looks durable and high quality.
