The speakers I bought a year ago were the AVBP2 series, which appear to be the previous version of these SXBP2 speakers (both have identical specs). I bought these to use as side surround speakers after reading what a great dual pole surround speaker design would be. However, the sound coming out of them was muddy, and the speakers only occasionally produced a sound that made it feel like you were really surrounded by it. I didn't have anything comparable at the time, so I tried to work with them as best I could. They were on stands so I could experiment with their placement, but I couldn't get the sound I wanted. Fast forward a few weeks as I did another round of research on bipole and dipole designs until I came across some articles where the authors said that the original specifications for Dolby Surround Sound also required straight surround sound speakers . One should try to balance the performance of the environment with the fronts. Well, these speakers are certainly a far cry from the kind of performance you're likely to use as the front in your setup. I decided to try the straight speakers and ordered a pair of KEF Q150's which were on sale and seemed to work well for surround sound as they could be placed both vertically and horizontally. Horizontal as I placed and tried mine. I was amazed at the sound quality. I literally felt surrounded by exquisitely detailed sound and couldn't pinpoint it, while I was able to pinpoint Fluance easily. They changed my setup and opened up my front speakers in a way I didn't think could work before. Perhaps Fluance's proprietary version of Bipole is better suited to the characteristics of typical front-facing speakers, but I no longer believe in the unique characteristics of Bipole design and strongly recommend going straight speakers and getting the best you can afford. Don't just buy an old pair of cheap satellite speakers. You are depriving yourself of the beautiful sound you might otherwise enjoy. I gave 3 stars for the quality as they looked decent. But for everything else I can't give more than 2 stars, which is generous. Whilst they are cheap I can't say they are value for money because if they don't produce good sound then what value can they really be? I really wanted to like them and at first I was blown away by the novelty of the design, but I was wrong about them. Don't make the same mistake I did.
