After my upstairs neighbor's leak destroyed my floor and I was faced with the hassle and expense of installing a new floor I was given this watchdog water detector Monitoring. a cement floor in a stacked column of pipes behind my kitchen's drywall - on the path where the water was coming down from above. Using six feet of wire I have the sensor on the cement floor next to the pipes and the alarm itself is installed in the access panel next to the kitchen counter. Less than a week after installing the new floor, I hear what sounds like a fire alarm coming from the wall. This is a security alert. Not again! But due to early warning, this time I alerted apartment security and, in the meantime, diverted water leaking from a neighbor's new leak to a large bowl next to my sink before any damage could occur (thanks to a quick makeshift system). funnel with aluminum foil to catch drips from above). Upon examining the cement floor where the sensor detected a leak, there was no puddle or puddle, just a dark patch of wet cement. The leak has only just begun! Within hours, security found a neighbor who was unaware of his own leak and repaired the broken pipe. This is how the alarm saved my new floor AND responded quickly to the neighbor whose damage could have been greater if it wasn't for the reaction to turning the alarm on. Advantages of this special alarm: - Loud alarm, very similar to a smoke alarm at home. - 6 foot cable. allows you to place the detector in places where there are water leaks and place the alarm where it can be better heard or easily reached to replace the batteries. - in my experience he felt the water before it was deep enough to flow anywhere - the wet surface was enough to turn him on which is great. Cons: - no low battery warning (regular replacement needs to be scheduled in advance) - this would add to the cost, but I wish it could ring or text my phone with a notification when I'm gone. I'm looking for models with this feature, but since they cost more I might opt for a model that can send text alerts, as well as some less expensive models that have audible alarms.
