Review on πŸ”¦ Efficient Dietz #76 Original Oil Burning Lantern (Green): An Authentic Lighting Solution by Kent Page

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The wick will NOT be fed when wet.

My lamp arrived today. I unpacked it, checked it, made sure the wick access lever worked and made sure the chimney spring worked. I then checked to see if the wick would feed up and down. Everything was checked in turn. Filled with some oil and checked for leaks, nothing found. I left it until the wick was completely saturated and lit it. It looked pretty good and I was happy for a moment, but the wick should be a little higher. So I twisted the knob and NOTHING. Eventually I managed to get him to pull back just far enough to put out the flames. After it cooled, I opened it up, removed the burner section entirely, and checked the wick feed to make sure the wick wasn't snagging on anything. It's not like this. It just doesn't adjust properly when there's kerosene lamp oil on the wick. It will fall a little, but not normally and not very much, and it will not rise AT ALL. I'm assuming it's just a smooth friction roller on the inside so it runs great dry, but the oil adds lubrication and just doesn't have enough power to lift it when wet. Most devices of this type have rollers with small teeth that grab the wick and actually move it, lubricated or not. will cost me at least twice as much but I will be buying a WT Kirkman USA made version of this lantern.
