Radioditty GS-5B Dual Band Performance Measurement Handheld Review

Radioditty recently released the new waterproof GS-5B handheld that meets the needs of a more industrial radio that can withstand everyday abuse in a work environment withstands . The case is definitely more durable than a typical PDA and has a 7.4 volt 2000 mAh battery. The battery is fixed with a screw to increase tightness and moisture resistance. It really ticks all the right boxes for a take-anywhere radio. The radio is listed as a VHF/UHF radio and has a transmission range of 136-175 MHz and 400-520 MHz. While the receiver has a 136-520MHz range, you can control the 220MHz range as a bonus feature. The radio also features separate PTT switches for each band and a large color display. I measured with the service monitor IFR-1200SS. To make the receiver sensitivity measurement comparable to what you can do at home, I used squelch level 1 as a reference. 0.30uF Lower sensitivity but not advertised for coverage 220,446,000 0.17uV Transmitter Rejection CTCSS/Mic146,520 680/4.5kHz446,000 700/5.0kHz Transmit Power L/H146,520 2.9/4 ,0W446,000 2.2/3.7W Overall, the radio worked very well and if you're looking for something more durable here's an option for off-road, hiking and fishing enthusiasts. Just a note, not listed in the manual, but the top row of buttons provides DTMF tones for "A, B, C and D". That was important to me because I use these buttons to control my repeaters. The package includes a charger, antenna, serial programming cable, belt clip, strap, and clear earphone and microphone for noisy environments. performed with software downloaded from the Radioddity website using the supplied serial cable. This is the first radio I've tested that can also be programmed from your smartphone via Bluetooth! I had to download the iOS software as a beta version using the provided Q code because Apple has not yet released it to the App Store at the time of writing this article. Programming is easy, but Bluetooth is very convenient for field programming because keyboard programming can sometimes be difficult on imported radios. Repeater System Joe OrricoWB6HROWR6AAC
