Review on ๐ŸŽจ DANIEL SMITH Hand Poured Watercolor, Half Pans, Ultimate Mixing Set - 15 Watercolor Half Pans, 15 Empty Half Pans, 2 Plastic Travel Cases (total 32 pieces) 285650009 by Lisa Pruitt

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Compact but not travel ready, the cheapest high price pigment choice.

The color choices for this set were handpicked by artist Jane Blundell. If you are a fan of hers and love her mixing charts/book then this set is made for you. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a universal set of "perfect blending" for all artists, especially if you like bright and unique colors. Too many shades of brown for graphic design/non-photorealism. The price of this set is damn high as it is filled with the cheapest pigments. To put this in perspective, each cup will cost you at least $5, while you can buy a whole 15ml tube for around $11, which would fill that cup about 7 times. You may think this is a great way to try Daniel Smith colors without having to invest. in many tube colors resulting in a higher initial investment but I would examine the color choices very carefully and decide if you think the price is worth it. They aren't unique except for goethite brown, you can get sets from other companies with these base colors for a lot less. Instead, if you want to see what makes Daniel Smith so special, I highly recommend one of the Primatek paints or 6-piece half sets that have at least a few hidden gems (like the Blues set, which is full of granulating Minerals is and is very expensive) sleepy paint). the beauty of turquoise" which will set you back $20 for that color alone if you buy it in tube form). The case is compact - that's the best there is to say about it. Many will fit in a purse, a few in a pocket. The lid doesn't lay flat and there is a gap so colors can just bleed out of the case if you try to blend on the lid.I attached it myself with glue (Elmers or glue gun netting), see pic The paints are high quality so this rating hasn't taken off all the stars There are detailed reviews on YouTube if you want to see an extensive list of artists who have had issues with this set I love Daniel Smith paints but this set lives up to it just not the price for the price.
