works like a charm! I ordered 5 of these for outdoor lighting near my doors and garage doors. Here they are about half the price of Walmart. The gadget makes your lightbulb stick out about an inch and a half higher than without it. So if you use them in a short fixture, keep that in mind. I only had one mount that always seemed to screw in and position the photo sensor on the back of the mount. In my application it doesn't matter since there is a lot of light, otherwise the adapter will "feel" the darkness. This device comes with two additional light sensor adapters or filters. I think they are used in case the main sensor has too much ambient light to detect darkness. I didn't have to use them. I'm happy that my house is now automatically well lit and I don't have to remember to switch everything off in the morning. I will use my extra in the house when I'm on vacation. I've read that lampshades need to be removed when used in a lamp.
